"TEACHING WITH CONTRIVED EXPERIENCES"

Atoms?Planetariums?Specimens? These are just few examples of contrived experiences. So then, what does it mean by contrived experiences? Contrived Experiences are the things that substitutes the reality. When the things are impossible to bring in the classroom, or shall we say it is not accessible to be brought in the classroom. These contrived experiences plays a vital role in the teaching-learning process. Why? it is because these help a lot in the part of the learner for the reason, they may able to visualize objects, have clear vision of a particular thing and most importantly, learning could be much better if the learners can picture out the real thing that is replace by a thing in which people are draw to closer image of the reality.

Models,mock-up,specimen,objects,simulation and game. These are few examples on how to use contrived experiences. Starting with the models, these are used to represent the real thing in a small or large scale that is made of synthetic material. An example of models is an atom. Mock-ups- these are used to show a specific arrangement, process, and a system of a thing. A planetarium is one of the best example of mock-ups. The third one, specimen. This can be classify into classes, division and group. An example for this is a specimen of a snake, frog, lizard, etc... Next in line are the objects in which they are commonly observed in the museum, exhibits and etc... Example for this are relics, fossils and many more. Second to the last,Simulation- an activity in which learners are involved and they are active participants. School election and drills are just few examples for this contrived experiences. Last but definitely not the least, Games. Games should be related to the subject matter. This aids to the improvement of the learner's understanding. One best example for this is the game called " Damath".

So now we can clearly visualize how important contrived experiences are.

Direct Purposeful Experiences

As we go further in our topic, I have learned that this direct purposeful experiences is an important factor in regards to the very foundation of the learning process. From the moment of our conception we are gradually learning. But then, we do learn first  in our experiences. That's why this direct purposeful experiences concentrates on the learning by doing. As we grow, we met various sources and forms of learning, but it is believe that learning is at your best when you have experienced it, as the saying goes that experience is the best teacher.

Well, we are all aware that as we go through in this fast-pacing world, we are able to collect lots of knowledge with the aid of our senses. Yes, our senses also have their share in this direct purposeful experiences. From the environment we are able to gathered data and also we are able to create our ideas and concepts about it. We are capable of making our generalization and conclusion about the subject matter. From the word itself, purposeful, we can say that our experiences really have a purpose that in the future we might use it for the betterment of what we are doing.

So, as teacher to be I must consider the experiences of my students so that they be able to relate more effectively the relation of the subject matter to the real-life situation.

Using and Evaluating Instructional Materials

Instructional materials play a vital role in the teaching profession. Since, it is more advisable to teachers to use various IM's to introduce the lesson much better. But, a fascilatator must be careful enough in choosing the right instructional material to use so that it won't create any problem during the presentation of a report. Instructional materials is indeed helpful in the part of teachers since they may be able to support the lesson that they are talking about. It also helps students to think logically and creatively. It also allow students  to create their own understanding towards the specific topic.

In using instructional materials we should also consider the relevance of that material to the learning of the student. It is also important that the material being used must be effective enough to the learners for them to appreciate the instructional material. Teachers must also choose instructional materials that is somehow learners can reflect and relate so that the presentation of the instructional materials is on a smooth sailing way.
